AECID Invests €25 Million to Boost LATAM Insurtech
The Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID) has announced an investment of €25 million in management agency Mundi Ventures, agreeing that the funding will be allocated to insurtech startups and parallel sectors aiming to improve and digitise the insurance sector.

AECID is the primary management arm of the Cooperación Española, focusing on fighting poverty and supporting sustainable development. FONPRODE has approved this investment to support sustainable development and poverty alleviation in Latin America, a key region for Cooperación Española, where Mundi Ventures already has investments and investors.

This investment will further the internationalisation of Mundi Ventures, which operates across Europe, the US, Asia, and Latin America. Mundi Ventures has shown a commitment to impactful investments in key sectors, such as Submer in Europe and Raincoat in Latin America, which are focused on the climate sector. It has also supported health-oriented companies like Cuideo in Spain and Sami in Brazil, aimed at improving health outcomes.

Mundi Ventures has supported over 60 companies in total. Among its investments are Betterfly, a life/wellness insurer with over one million clients, Olé Life, focused on the life insurance market, and Sami, which provides technologically-supported health insurance for populations not yet covered by other insurance products.

The company has a global presence with missions tailored to regional needs. In Europe, where populations are older, the focus has been on improving existing technologies and enhancing advanced ones, contributing to longevity. In Latin America, where insurance coverage is much lower, the priority has been fostering inclusion and protection to close the protection gap.

This partnership between Cooperación Española and Mundi Ventures underscores the vital role of financial cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals.
