Anterior Secures Successful $20 Million Series A
Anterior, an insurtech using AI to expedite health insurance approval for medical procedures, has successfully closed a $20 million Series A round at a $95 million valuation.

The funding round by seasoned VC NEA, whilst existing investors Sequoia and Neo also participated, The round also includes a host of angel investors, including Mustafa Suleyman who was recently hired by Microsoft to lead the company’s consumer AI division.

Anterior was founded in 2022 as Co:Helm and assists with healthcare administration via its AI clinical co-pilot: Florence (Nightingale). The company was founded by Abdel Mahmoud, a former clinician, who became frustrated with the amount of time spent on administrative functions in the medical profession.

The company’s LLM-powered co-pilot streamlines  the process of gathering medical documentation, aiming to reduce denial rates and accelerate patient access to care. The company aims to expand into further medical functions.

Mohamad Makhzoumi, co-CEO of NEA, will join Anterior’s Board of Directors, and said: There is a critical need to create efficiencies in healthcare administration, and Anterior’s advanced technology can help streamline processes, reduce costs, and have a significant impact on the industry.”

Abdel Mahmoud, CEO of Anterior, commented: “Our proprietary technology will reduce the administrative burden health insurers in the U.S. face, ultimately saving the country billions and enabling doctors and nurses to work at the top of their licence. With half of our team being doctors or nurses, we deeply understand the problem we’re solving. The company plans to use the funding to accelerate its hiring strategies and to keep refining its product, with the aim of making “Florence to be as ubiquitous as a doctor’s pager but 100x smarter.”
