Arbol Raises US$60 Million in Series B Funding to Expand Climate-Based Insurance Coverage
Arbol, a climate-focused insurtech startup, has successfully raised $60 million in a Series B funding round. Giant Ventures and Opera Tech Ventures co-led the round, with participation from Mubadala Capital, joining existing investors Finch Finance and Space Capital.

Founded in 2018 and headquartered in New York, Arbol offers insurance coverage based on climate events. The company utilizes objective climate data markers to automatically trigger insurance payouts, eliminating the need for manual claims adjustments. For example, if a farmer experiences high rainfall, Arbol’s system can quickly provide financial support based on pre-specified conditions.

This parametric insurance approach aims to streamline the payout process, offering rapid financial relief for those affected by climate-related risks. In the past year alone, there were 398 global natural disasters, resulting in $380 billion in economic losses, according to Aon. Arbol’s founder and CEO, Sid Jha, emphasized the importance of addressing these climate risks swiftly and effectively, noting the critical role of AI in their operations.

Despite a broader tech slowdown, Arbol’s successful funding round highlights the ongoing investment interest in innovative solutions to climate challenges. The startup’s unique approach to insurance is designed to provide quicker, more reliable support for those facing the increasing threats posed by climate change.

Siddhartha Jha is the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Arbol, said: “Essentially, AI enables us to deliver more responsive and tailored insurance, directly addressing our clients’ needs with greater accuracy. This precision significantly improves our underwriting efficiency, allowing us to customise insurance products that are aligned with specific climate risks and structured to activate swiftly when those risks materialise.”
