The news follows on from Coalition’s launch of its Active Cyber Insurance products in Australia. The firm highlights that a mere 20% of Australian SMEs currently possess cyber insurance, pointing to a limited expertise in this domain among insurance brokers.
The decision to hire Machin aligns with Coalition’s ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive regional support for brokers, complementing its established presence in London.
Machin is a seasoned professional indemnity (PI) underwriter with a notable tenure at Allianz, and brings his wealth of experience to Coalition UK’s expanding team of regional risk engineers. With a primary focus on cultivating relationships with brokers in Northwest England, Machin’s appointment reflects the company’s dedication to enhancing its services beyond the capital.
Having previously held key roles such as senior cyber underwriter at Chubb and senior associate, cyber, at broker WTW, Machin’s diverse background also includes underwriting professional indemnity and financial lines with RSA and QBE.
Speaking about the appointment, Machin said: “I simply could not turn down the chance to work for such a forward-thinking and innovative company. I hope the combination of Coalition’s offering and my experience and relationships will make this a success. I look forward to supporting local brokers and helping businesses to better protect themselves against cyber risks.”
Stephen Wares, Coalition’s UK Head of Risk Engineering, also commented, saying: “Gareth’s appointment marks an acceleration of our focus on regional development and underwriting. He’ll be our first Manchester-based regional risk engineer who will also act as a gateway to our underwriting expertise for our brokers in the region. With his considerable experience and local knowledge, Gareth will be a valuable addition to our growing team.”
