CSIO Launches Cybersecurity Learning Programme
The Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) has introduced an online cybersecurity learning programme aimed at bolstering the defences of Canadian businesses against the growing threat of cybercrime.

The Cybersecurity Education Programme, designed to enhance the cybersecurity expertise of property and casualty insurance employees, is available at no cost to CSIO members.

The 2.5-hour course comprises 13 interactive modules, equipping participants with the knowledge to assess their current business environment and apply cybersecurity best practices. The programme’s primary objective is to empower insurance professionals with the skills needed to identify and mitigate cyber threats effectively.

This initiative comes in response to alarming data from the Canadian Centre for Cybersecurity, which revealed that cybercriminals stole over $500 million in 2022—a figure likely much higher when accounting for unreported incidents. Recognising the escalating threat, CSIO’s programme seeks to cultivate a culture of security awareness and provide essential tools to safeguard organisations from cyber risks.

A standout feature of the programme is its flexibility. Participants can progress through the modules at their own pace, gaining access to resources that enable them to evaluate their cybersecurity posture and stay alert to both current and emerging threats.

Sarah Van Allen, Owner of Van Allen Insurance, commented: “The severity of cyberattacks on businesses, big and small, underscores the importance of being able to identify phishing scams and other threats. CSIO’s Cybersecurity Education Programme is user-friendly, engaging, and, most importantly, it helps our brokerage remain vigilant in the face of potential cyberattacks.”

The programme is accredited in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan, with accreditation pending in Alberta, and it qualifies for 2.5 Continuing Education credits. For those interested in further details or in registering, more information can be found at csio.com.
