Starting today, coverage will be offered to ~1,000 GM employees in Arizona before rolling out to its 85,100 US employees and the general public by the end of next year.
Led by Andrew Rose, the former President, Chairman and CEO of Compare.com, OnStar Insurance will leverage its unique understanding of the vehicles GM produces, as well as taking into account connected car data to offer ‘fair’ insurance. Pricing aside, OnStar Insurance policyholders who have an OnStar Safety & Security plan will have added peace of mind knowing that Automatic Crash Response can notify an OnStar Emergency-certified Advisor who can send for help.
Part of the discounts for GM owners will be based on drivers allowing the company to monitor their driving habits. Currently, GM provides driving feedback for nearly 19 million trips daily through its Smart Drive program that counts close to 7 million enrolled customers.
Insurance policies sold through the agency are underwritten and issued by member companies and affiliates of Homesite.
