The partnership will see MAPFRE offer Koa Health’s lead product, Koa Foundations, an evidence-based mental wellbeing app, to its clients in Costa Rica, prior to rolling out the service throughout Latin America.
Marking its entry into the Latin American market, Koa Health joined insur_space, MAPFRE’s fast-track-to-market start-up program, beating off more than 250 rival candidates in the process. The companies are working together to offer the application in Costa Rica, via a pilot that will run to April 2022, which will see more than 40,000 MAPFRE clients being offered access to Foundations.
With the global pandemic driving a surge in mental disorders including anxiety and depression, there has never been a greater need for digital solutions to support individuals’ mental health. Created to support mental wellbeing, Koa Foundations includes a library of evidence-based activities to help users deal with stress, poor sleep, worry and anxious thoughts, low self-esteem and more.
Oliver Harrison, CEO and Founder of Koa Health, defines the company’s vision as “mental health for all, driven by a mission to create simple, personal, accessible mental health support, combining scientific evidence, cutting-edge technology and user-centred design”.
Developed with input from world renowned clinicians and psychologists, Koa Foundations content is grounded in science, supported by strong data management and ethical standards. In a crowded marketplace where many mental wellbeing apps don’t have the backing of mental health professionals, Koa Foundations figures among a very small percentage of digital solutions (about 3%) with an evidence-based approach.
Koa Health makes it easier for insurance companies like MAPFRE to meet the growing demand for high- quality mental health services by offering cost-effective, evidence-based solutions. “At MAPFRE, we’re fully committed to the health of our clients. Koa Health fits perfectly into how we think about health, by democratizing access to mental health for everyone”, says Roy Medina, CEO of MAPFRE Costa Rica.
