As part of the solution, the companies will distribute the Ting electrical home monitoring system, which monitors a home’s electrical network for issues that could lead to an electrical fire. Policyholders in South Carolina, Indiana, and Missouri can receive the device at no additional charge, and the program is set to expand to additional states in the coming months.
Nationwide isn’t the only insurer leveraging Ting’s solution. In 2020, State Farm and Whisker Labs, the maker of Ting, began offering the device to qualified policyholders, and as of September 2022, over 140k Ting sensors were installed in homes insured by State Farm. The insurer has also invested in Whisker Labs through its venture arm.
