This newly created position will see Matt Paterson take on the responsibility of overseeing the claims teams across Zurich’s Retail Life, Group Life, and General Insurance businesses. He will report directly to CEO Justin Delaney.
Delaney highlighted the significance of Paterson’s role, stating that it marks “an important structural change to our team and our business more broadly.” By consolidating the claims teams into a single collective function, Zurich aims to integrate and scale its claims management and service delivery operations.
The move is expected to provide enhanced visibility and focus on claims, ultimately leading to improved experiences and efficiency for both individual and commercial customers.
The appointment of Paterson follows the departure of Suzi Leung, the former Chief Claims Officer Life & Investments at Zurich, who is joining Hollard. Meanwhile, the position of Chief Claims Officer General Insurance, held by Tim Scott-Young, remains unchanged. Scott-Young will now report to Mr. Paterson in his new capacity.
With a career spanning over two decades, Paterson brings extensive senior leadership experience in various sectors, including financial services, customer services, telecommunications, and consulting. He has held notable positions at IAG, TAL, ANZ, and most recently served as the Group Chief Operating Officer for nib.
Paterson will be based in Sydney, from where he will lead Zurich’s claims operations in Australia and New Zealand. His appointment reflects Zurich’s commitment to strengthening its claims management capabilities and furthering its customer-centric approach to service delivery in the region.
